Some of the most beloved spaces in a home aren't rooms at all. They're the corner by the window where someone always ends up reading. The deep seat tucked beside the fireplace. The breakfast nook that fits the family exactly. The spot that, when the house is full of people, is still somehow just yours.

These spaces don't happen by accident. They're designed and built with intention — and they're some of our favorite work.

Hewes & Company has been crafting custom built-in nooks for fifty years. We build window seats with storage beneath, reading alcoves fitted to a dormer, inglenooks that frame a hearth, breakfast nooks that belong to the kitchen the way no freestanding booth ever could, and sleeping lofts tucked into the geometry of an attic. We build the spaces that make a house feel like it was made specifically for the people who live in it — because it was.

Every nook we build is designed around its location: the angle of the ceiling, the height of the sill, the way the light moves through the room at different times of day. We work in painted finishes and natural hardwoods, with cushions, built-in lighting, drawers, and hidden storage integrated as naturally as if they'd always been there.

This work requires both the cabinetmaker's precision and the finish carpenter's understanding of a room as a whole. We bring both.
