About Peter Belinsky, President & CEO

Peter Belinsky was born on Long Island, New York, but his family moved to Penobscot, Maine in 1987 when he was young. He attended George Stevens Academy (GSA) and graduated in 2000. As a high school student, Peter played trombone for the world class jazz program at GSA and enjoyed math and sciences.

While attending George Stevens Academy, Peter spent time during Independent Study Program at Elliott Architects, a local architecture firm in Blue Hill, Maine. It was here that Peter learned it wasn’t architecture that suited him; rather, a trade that required working with his hands. Peter says, “I have always loved architecture, and I have tremendous respect for architects. I love working with them, but I learned during that time that I was more suited to be a builder.”

After graduating from GSA, Peter joined the U.S. Army as an active duty soldier and was a combat engineer working with demolition and explosives. Peter says of his military experience, “It was an honor to serve my country. The lessons I learned there have served me well my whole life, and I’ve made friendships that have lasted a lifetime. I learned how to lead people, how to inspire others, and how to keep individuals on task- all skills that are useful in my role today.” When Peter exited the U.S. Army, he moved to the Midwest where he worked in construction and began exercising his entrepreneurial muscles. He launched several different construction companies while he lived in the Omaha area.

In 2020, Peter moved back home to the Blue Hill Peninsula to be closer to his aging parents. He began working at Hewes & Company, a fifty-year-old employee-owned construction company, as an Assistant Project Manager. Within twenty-two months, Peter was promoted to President; it was clear that he had the leadership skills to lead a growing company.

In his free time, Peter enjoys fishing, golf, and is an avid college football fan. His favorite pastime, though, is being with his family. He shares a blended family with his wife, Rachel. They live in Blue Hill, Maine.

Peter remarks, “I am humbled and grateful to have played many roles at Hewes & Company, and I am honored to work alongside each and every employee co-owner as we continue to grow this community business. It is a special place, and I am both excited for the future and the opportunity to honor the legacy of the past fifty years.”
